Shannon O. Opie, DNP, APRN, ANP-BC, CARN-AP

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (Ext. 135)

Dr. Shannon O. Opie, DNP, APRN, ANP-BC, CARN-AP, Chief Executive Officer of Intervention Project for Nurses, has expertise in the areas of alcohol and substance use related conditions, forensic drug testing, primary care, and the assessment and treatment of impaired professionals. In her role as CEO, Dr. Opie assures that IPN services are consistent with the goal of protecting the healthcare consumer from nurses with impairing conditions, while simultaneously providing assistance to the nurse. The CEO serves as the consultant to the Department of Health, coordinating ongoing program needs assessment based on State requirements and national best practices.

Dr. Opie received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in 2013 from University of Florida and is an American Nurses Credential Center, Board Certified Adult Nurse Practitioner, and is also a Certified Addictions Registered Nurse in Advanced Practice. Additionally, Dr. Opie is a member of the International Nurses Society on Addictions and served as a Director at Large on the Board of Directors from 2018 to 2020. She was the recipient of IntNSA’s Peer Assistance Award in 2019. She is a member of the Florida Nurses Association (FNA), American Nurses Association (ANA), Florida Nurse Practitioner Network (FNPN), Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Lambda Rho Chapter, and is active in the Florida Quality and Unity in Nursing (QUIN) organization.

Myrtle Greene, Ph.D, LMHC, CAP, ICADC

CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER (Ext. 147)

Dr. Myrtle Greene serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) with the Florida Intervention Project for Nurses (IPN). She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) as well as an International Certified Addiction Counselor (ICADC).

Dr. Greene regularly provides workshops and trainings on “Workplace Impairment” to healthcare and nursing organizations. She has authored professional publications on addiction in healthcare settings. Her most recent ProQuest publication in 2020 titled: Examining the Effect of Substance Use Training on Registered Nurses’ Competency and Self-Efficacy.

She holds a Doctoral Degree in General Psychology, Master of Arts degrees in Counseling Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, and Philosophy. Dr. Greene currently serves as President of the National Organization of Alternative Programs (NOAP). She is an advisory member of the Florida State College of Jacksonville (FSCJ) Nursing Education Advisory Committee. Other memberships include the Florida Quality and Unity in Nursing Council (QUIN), American Psychological Association (APA), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the Florida Mental Health Association (FMHA)

John C. Tanner, D.O. DipABAM, FASAM, CCFC, MRO

MEDICAL DIRECTOR, IPN (Ext. 149)

Dr. John C. Tanner, is one of the inaugural physicians certified by both the American Society of Addiction Medicine (1986) and the American Board of Addiction Medicine (2009), in addition to being a Clinically Certified Forensic Counselor. Dr. Tanner has worked in the addictions field since 1984 and previously served as Assistant Medical Director of the Florida PRN program. He serves on the Board of ASAM and remains actively involved in treating impaired professionals. IPN is very pleased to have Dr. Tanner on staff for his expert consultation, review of complex cases and best practices education.
